This training program educates law enforcement on required training mandates for a terrorist or active shooter incident. New law (Assembly Bill 1598 - Emergency Response Services: Active Shooter Incidents) requires that collaborative protocols and relationships be developed among law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services. These first responders must train together and the training must be ongoing, updated, and include training and education with other entities that may be involved in an active shooter incident. The benefits to this type of training-- as well as some of the challenges in coordination-- are highlighted within the video.
The goal for this training is to assist peace officers in learning to become more effective in responding to these incidents as part of a multidisciplinary team. Everyone in law enforcement hopes that their community will never suffer the consequences of an active shooter incident. But they do happen, and officers need to be prepared. Following the direction and training requirements in this program will not only keep an agency in compliance with the law, it will also result in a response that is more collaborative and hopefully saves more lives.

The DVD-ROM video program offers two viewing modes and printable instructor and trainee documents as follows:
Facilitated Group Course
Each segment features a short introduction, followed by scenarios with related questions and activities to assist in facilitating a group discussion. The facilitator has the option to play subject matter expert comments after the discussion to re-emphasize a training point or to ensure all topics are covered. A “Facilitator Guide” document (PDF) is included on the DVD-ROM for printout from a computer.
Informational/Individual Viewing
This viewing mode allows an individual trainee or a small group of trainees to view the training video without formal (classroom) facilitation by an instructor. Features the same scenarios and questions or activities as the “Facilitated Group Course” track. Individual viewers may view sample group discussions, followed by comments from subject matter experts that reiterate and reinforce the teaching points. A "Student Workbook" document (PDF) is included on the DVD-ROM for printout from a computer.
